1837 Barossa Estate

After departing from our home base in the peaceful Hoffnungsthal Valley, prepare to immerse yourself in the unparalleled beauty of South Australia’s world-renowned wine region.

Your 15-minute scenic helicopter flight showcases the best of the southern Barossa. Soar northeast over Rowland Flat, home of Jacob’s Creek Winery, and marvel at the incredible scale of Australia’s largest wine tanks—each holding up to 1.4 million litres of wine! Glide over the charming town of Lyndoch, the Barossa Goldfields, and the iconic Whispering Wall, before tracing the South Para Reservoirs and capturing sweeping views of the southern Barossa Ranges.

Arrive at 1837 Barossa

Touch down at the breath-taking 1837 Barossa Estate, where history and art meet fine wine. The estate commemorates Colonel William Light, founder of Adelaide and first Surveyor-General of South Australia, who named the Barossa in December 1837. The property is home to the magnificent Colonel Light Monument, a life-size bronze statue on horseback, and the grand Barossa Manor, a tribute to the region’s origins.

You’ll be guided to the Barossa Legend Club tasting room for a short film on the naming of the Barossa and the history of 1837 Barossa wines. Then, enjoy a guided walk to the Colonel Light Monument, where you’ll take in 360-degree views of the valley before exploring the 1837 Art Trail. Don’t miss the famous “Wings of Barossa” sculpture—perfect for that photo-worthy angel pose overlooking the vineyards.

Depending on the season, your guided vineyard walk may include tasting grapes straight from the vines as you learn about the Barossa terroir and winemaking process. Back in the exclusive Pavilion, you’ll enjoy an interactive wine appreciation session, tasting eight premium wines—including reserve and sparkling selections—paired with insights from 1837’s expert hosts.

Relax, Dine & Reflect

Following your wine experience, unwind with a gourmet wood-fired pizza lunch paired with a glass of your favourite wine from the tasting. Before departure, capture one last memory at the supersized Barossa picture frame or in front of the iconic 12-metre BAROSSA sign, perfectly framing the valley backdrop.

Your helicopter will then whisk you back to Barossa Helicopters or your accommodation, completing an unforgettable day of history, art, wine, and scenic flight.
