Celebrating 40 years and Expanding Fleet

Barossa Helicopters Expands Fleet with Addition of AS350 “Squirrel” Helicopter as Company Celebrates 40 Years.

Barossa Valley, South Australia — Barossa Helicopters is proud to announce the acquisition of a new-to-fleet AS350 “Squirrel” (A-Star) helicopter, marking an exciting new chapter in the company’s continued growth and commitment to delivering exceptional aviation experiences.

Chief Pilot Bridgette Hasting, alongside her husband Richard Hasting, has led the decision to introduce the AS350 to complement the existing Robinson R44 fleet. The addition enhances operational capability, passenger comfort, and flexibility across tourism and charter services.

“We felt this was a sound investment into Barossa Helicopters,” said Bridgette. “The timing felt right for us to expand our fleet and continue building on what has already been an incredible journey.”

The AS350 is globally renowned for its performance, reliability, and versatility, making it a perfect fit for the diverse experiences Barossa Helicopters offers across the region.

Richard added, “We strongly believe in giving things a go. If something doesn’t work out, we take it as experience and move forward. That mindset has been key to our journey so far.”

The expansion has been made even more meaningful thanks to the strong support from the broader community. “We are incredibly grateful for the encouragement and backing we’ve received—not just from friends and colleagues within the aviation industry, but also from tourism operators and regional organisations,” Bridgette said.

This milestone comes at a particularly special time for the company. On 15 May 2026, Barossa Helicopters marks 37 years since founders Peter “Goose” Kies and Sandra Kies purchased their very first helicopter—a Bell 47J2A—laying the foundation for what would become a cornerstone of aviation in the Barossa region.

Since its beginnings in 1986 under the name Kies Aviation, the company has evolved significantly. Over the years, the fleet has included multiple aircraft such as two Bell 206 Jet Rangers and two Bell 206 Long Rangers. A strategic shift into full-time tourism in about 2004 saw those aircraft be sold to make way for brand-new Robinson R44 helicopters, which continue to serve as a key part of the fleet today.

In 2026, Barossa Helicopters proudly celebrates 40 years of operation—a remarkable milestone reflecting decades of passion, resilience, and innovation.

“To reach 40 years in business is a truly special milestone,” Bridgette said. “We’re incredibly proud of our journey so far and genuinely excited about what lies ahead. We’re also fortunate to have a passionate local team delivering our experiences, which is something we’re very grateful for”.

To mark this significant anniversary, Barossa Helicopters will be hosting special birthday celebrations later in the year and warmly invites the community, industry partners, and supporters to join in. Further details will be announced in the coming months.
